Almost three million jobs are posted on Upwork every year, making it one of the largest freelancer marketplace along with Fiverr.

You must keep your hourly rate not too low and not too high but accurate. You can search other freelancers of the same skills you have and find at what hourly rate do they work. Once you have completed enough jobs on Upwork, you can slowly increase your hourly rate but not too much.

Create Your Account On Upwork

1. Go to upwork website and at the top left corner of Upwork's homepage click on Sign Up.

2. Now a Sign Up form will appear. Write your first and last name and your gmail address. Remember that you have to add that name which is registered with your bank account because later when you will add a payment method, and the name on your bank account and Upwork account do not matches then you may have difficulty in receiving payments from clients.

3. After filling these three fields click on Get Started.

4. Now 'Complete Your Account' form will appear, there add your country and a strong password for your account. Select 'Work As A Freelancer' and add a username. Under the username type the letters that you see below and check mark the two boxes and then click on Next.

5. Now you will see the message 'Verify your email to proceed.' Just leave that section and go to your gmail inbox (Gmail ID that you used to create this account) and there you will get account activation message from Upwork. Open up the message and click on the link given to confirm your account.

6. Now you will be redirected to Upwork and at the top left corner you can see 'Logged in as [your_name]' which means that your account is created on Upwork.




Create Your Profile

1. After redirecting to Upwork on clicking the link , you will see written 'Thanks for your interest in Upwork!'. There you have to tell about your service you provide.

2. First select the main service you offer to your clients such as translating, writing, admin support, etc. Then select the other services that comes under your main service.

3. Now enter your skills that you are perfect at, you can add maximum ten skills such as PDF conversion, data entry, transcription, etc.

4. Now according to your experience level select one, Entry Level or Intermediate Level or Expert Level and then click on Save and Continue.

5. Now you will go to another form where it will ask you 'Tell us more about you'.

6. In this section firstly upload good professional looking photo of yours and add a professional title such as Data Entry and Transcription Professional, Writer and Translation Professional, etc.

7. Now write a professional overview which is one of the most important section of your profile. Write about your skills, experience and proficiency in this field.

8. Next thing is to set your hourly rate. Try to set hourly rate accurate which isn't too high or too low.

9. In education history, write your school or college that you attended and the dates up to which you attended.

10. In employment history, you can add your company name where you worked earlier. If you haven't then you can simply write Self and then add your city and country. In title you can write Self Employed and finally add the period that you worked in this field and click on Save.

11. Now add your availbility and location, address, city, pin code of your city and your phone no.

12. Finally click on Review Application.

Submit Your Profile For Review

Now you will come to yours actual profile and at the top bar there will be a message box with a button Submit Application. Simply click the button to submit your profile for review but before recheck your profile and if something isn't correct you can click Edit Profile option to go in edit mode. Once you have submitted the application, Upwork will review your profile and if your profile get approved, you will receive a message in your gmail inbox that your profile has been approved by Upwork. Now you will be able to submit the job proposals.

Try to make your profile your 100% complete by linking your social account with Upwork, adding some other experiences and portfolios of your past work. This can increase the chance of getting jobs and profile approval on Upwork.
